Youth Ministry Mission Statement:
The Youth Ministry of FPC OS exists to develop a community of students growing in discipleship of Jesus Christ, in relationship with one another and the church, through unconditional love.
Children’s Ministry Mission Statement:
The Children’s Ministry of FPC OS is the church equipping our children and their families to know, grow, and go as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Position Summary:
- Serve as the primary program director for the youth ministry and the overall administrative coordinator of Children’s Ministry.
- Seek to inspire students in First Presbyterian Church and in the Ocean Springs community to develop lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ and serve as active members of God’s family.
- Intentionally initiate relationships with middle school and high school students and their families.
- Lead and equip volunteers for effectively developing relationships and participating in the children’s and youth ministry of our church.
- Identify, develop, and implement strategies to integrate students into the overall life of the church.
- Ensure that all programs, events, and goals of First Presbyterian Church Youth Ministry reflect the larger mission statement of First Presbyterian Church, which is “To Know Christ, and Make Christ Known Together.”
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ministry Director for Youth and Children shall work with the Associate Pastor of Family Ministry and the Christian Education Committee to provide discipleship for all middle school and high school students.
- Implement the vision for youth and children’s ministry as part of the greater life of the church set by the session and pastoral staff.
- Work with Associate Pastor of Family Ministry to ensure the administrative oversight of the Children’s Ministry.
- Develop relationships with youth and their families, recognizing and encouraging them in the development of their faith and service in the church.
- Commit 4-5 hours per week to offsite contact work that will build and strengthen relationships with students through direct involvement in their environment.
- Serve as lead teacher and planner for the Harbor (Sunday night youth group).
- Serve as administrative coordinator for all of Sunday school, weekly church activities and special events for students ages 3-high school.
- Organize, plan, and lead youth activities, trips, and special events:
- YearlyHigh schoolsummer trip
- YearlyMiddle Schoolsummer trip
- Annual Fall Retreat
- Other events as outlined by the youth vision/support team
- Serve on Christian Education committee, attend monthly meetings and complete all committee related responsibilities.
- Serve on the Youth Vision/Support Team and help direct the vision of the youth ministry and implement support to carry out that vision.
- Serve on the Children’s Ministry Action Team and help direct the vision of children’s ministry and provide support to carry out that vision.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Attend Worship each Sunday.
- Coordinate with the Mission Committee to identify local and global mission opportunities for intergenerational groups.
- Communicate effectively with students and their families about the youth ministry.
- Assist in the planning and implementation ofVacationBibleSchool.
Qualifications:
- A strong faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and a commitment to the proclamation of the good news of Jesus Christ to a broken world
- A passion for working with middle school and high school students
- Ability to teach middle school and high school students effectively
- An understanding that children of all ages are beloved by God and called to be his disciples
- An excitement to participate in the church’s calling to diligently teach children to love and serve the Lord
- Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to delegate responsibilities and supervise volunteers
- Self-motivated
- Able to work well with others in a team environment
- Salary $32,000 (plus mileage, business expenses, and continuing education)
