Director of Children and Youth Ministries
St. Edward’s Episcopal Church Lawrenceville, Georgia

The Director of Children and Youth Ministries will coordinate the weekly and seasonal programming centered on spiritual growth and formation for the children and youth of the parish with assistance from the clergy and parish volunteers. This position is 15 to 20 hrs/wk and is considered part-time.

Administration

Recruit, train and supervise all teachers and leaders of Sunday school and weekly programs with assistance from volunteer coordinators

Insure compliance with the diocesan youth customary for self and each volunteer and program offered

Offer “Safeguarding our Children” training at least once a year

Make sure a contact list of teachers, leaders and substitutes is available for volunteers and coordinators for each program or event

Conduct registration for programs or events with emergency contacts ready and available during program

Supply copies of updated information to parish administrator

Schedule a teacher/leader commissioning to take place near the beginning of the school year and teacher/leader appreciation toward the end

Manage expenses of the EYC, Nursery and Christian Formation Budgets (including the EYC Fund)

Recruit parents for Christian Education Committee for Children and Youth and meet with them.

Check-in and check-out with teachers and leaders each year (evaluation of program materials, etc.)

Serve as resource to teachers and leaders

Explore new and revise existing formational offerings as needed

Attend continuing education offerings for spiritual growth, guidance and increased professionalism (financial support provided by the parish)

Keep track of regular attendance in all weekly programs

 

Materials

Organize classroom cleanups each year and inform Jr. Warden of any special attention required in classrooms

Inventory all classroom equipment and supplies, communicate all available resources to teachers/leaders

Provide each classroom with age-appropriate Bibles, BCPs communications technology and other essential resources

Purchase curriculum materials and other supplies as needed

Order and maintain sufficient supplies for weekly programs

Order seasonal materials for Advent/Lent, etc. for families and children and youth

Communication

Attend weekly staff meetings and the Annual Calendar Planning Meeting

Report on attendance and issues related to children and youth activities for the Rector and Vestry

Provide weekly and/or special announcements for Sunday bulletins and weekly emails

Annual report for parish meeting on Children and Youth Ministries

Maintain a bulletin board/other displays (encourage younger classes to submit materials to be displayed)

Provide a monthly calendar of events for youth/families

Update with current information the youth blog and youth page of parish web site

Liaison/Advocate

Serve as a representative to the community and diocese for our children and youth

Collaborate ongoing and special opportunities for fellowship, service and worship for our children and youth within the broader context of our community life (i.e. neighboring churches and service organizations)

Work alongside other parish ministries that may include children and youth

Regularly attend and be visible during worship, education and fellowship times

Be a resource for children and youth and their parents and serve as dependable contact for programs

Engage parents and youth on an individual and group basis to develop relationships

Share pastoral concerns of the children, youth and their families with the clergy

Special Events (the Director will secure parishioners to coordinate and will assist with)

St.Nicholas Day

Nativity Pageant

Shrove Tuesday

Stations of the Cross for Children and Youth or other Holy Week events

Easter Egg Hunt

VBS (Director will chair leadership committee)

Weekly Program: (the Director will secure parishioners to coordinate and will supervise and assist as needed )

Nursery

B4e (Kids’ group for 3rd – 5th graders)

EYC (Episcopal Youth Community): Director will be the main leader for this group

Recruit and train co-leaders to assist with Jr. High and Sr. High EYC

Organize and supervise weekly meetings and occasional schedule overnight events of the EYC, including events sponsored by the diocesan youth ministries program (i.e. Happening, New Beginnings, etc.).

Also organize annualMissiontrip and other outreach/service offerings.

Training

i. Hold yearly training for Youth Workers on topics relevant to their areas of ministry

ii. Ensure all are trained and up-to-date in Safe Church standards; provide program descriptions, supervisory plans and policies according to Safe Church standards, which have also been submitted to the Rector and Vestry

iii. Evaluate and provide continued training and mentoring for the youth on the ministry team,especially on servant leadership and peer care

• Support

i. Hold regular meetings for all youth workers on departmental organization, curriculum, troubleshooting, visioning, and evaluation of the program, and coordination of all different program areas

ii. Be available for consultation for teachers and ministry team workers

iii. Provide clear job descriptions for youth workers so they know what is expected

iv. Provide accountability and monitoring of all Youth Programs and youth workers

Encourage individual growth in youth’s personal faith (Maintain regular personal contact with youth)

Foster Episcopal Doctrine (Plan and teach a confirmation class every other year in coordination with the priests)

Stewardship—Maintain and keep control of all youth equipment, facilities and resources; teach youth about stewardship as well
