summer intern job description
summer intern program
2 Timothy 2:2 “what you have heard from me in the presence of many
witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others.”
Our goal for the summer intern program is to provide an opportunity
for our interns to grow personally in their faith in Jesus Christ as well
as professionally in the area of student ministry. By the end of the
summer program, our interns will have a balanced experience as they
experience a holistic approach to student ministry.
The internsʼ weekly responsibilities will require approximately 25 hours a week.
Employment will be from May 29 through August 12 (dates are flexible depending on the internʼs college schedule).

Weekly Responsibilities
Contact Work (7 hours)
Interns will spend time with the students of Greentree and will be expected to love, shepherd, encourage, and lead the students by example over the course of the summer. The goal of the contact time is to challenge students in the area of personal faith and to meet their friends as we work to expand the sphere of influence of GTCC Student Ministries.
Planning and Attending Program Events (5 hours)
Interns will be involved in planning and executing several events over the course of the summer.
These events are designed to aid staff and volunteers in building relationships with GTCC students and their friends. The Interns will run one event at the end of the summer from start to finish.
Teaching (2 hours)
Interns will have the opportunity to teach biblically based lessons to large and small groups throughout the summer during Sunday School and Bible studies. Interns are expected to prepare and teach a minimum of three lessons.
Professional and Personal Development (4 hours)
Interns will meet regularly with the Directors of Student Ministries both individually and as a group.
During the individual meetings, the goal will be personal spiritual growth in their walk with Christ. The
group meetings will be geared toward professional development in the area of student ministry. They
will follow a reading curriculum that lends itself toward conversations on various topics involving
student ministry.
Serving with Hope Unlimited (3 hours)
Interns will gain valuable local community experience by serving with Hope Unlimited. The interns will
be given direction by the Hope Unlimited staff on how they can best serve through programs like
tutoring, summer work program, summer reading program, etc.
Office Work (4 hours)
Interns will spend time in the office gaining valuable insight into the behind the scenes workings of our
church staff.

Girlʼs Retreat (TBA – female intern only)
Optional summer trips (fundraising opportunities): Guatemala Mission Trip (June 4-11);
