Youth Ministry Opportunity

Sweetwater First United Methodist Church is seeking an energetic, spiritually mature Christian to fill the position of Youth Minister.

Job duties include:

  • A commitment to PRAY for the youth of Sweetwater FUMC and our community.
  • A commitment to be involved beyond the church in the lives and activities of the youth of Sweetwater FUMC and our community.
  • Providing spiritual guidance to youth by modeling a personal commitment to spiritual disciplines and regular worship.  This includes helping youth set spiritual goals and assisting and encouraging them to use their gifts in worship and service.
  • Plan and supervise scheduled youth activities an average of twice per week (typically Sunday and Wednesday evenings).
  • Planning and directing occasional fund raising events as well as managing youth budget.
  • Coordinating and communicating camp opportunities for youth.  (Securing transportation to and from camp, staying abreast of camp dates, registration deadlines, etc.)
  • Work collaboratively with parents to forge partnerships in ministry.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff and the pastor as immediate supervisor.

Gifts preferred:

  • Highly energetic and self motivated.
  • Ability to relate to middle and high school age youth while also being able to maintain respect and authority.
  • Ability to work with persons of all ages.  Sweetwater FUMC is part of a mid-size community and the youth minister must be able to communicate with various groups and individuals.
  • Technological skills are a plus.
 

Sweetwater is located 40 miles west of Abilene, TX and has a population of approximately 11,000.  Sweetwater has one High School with an enrollment of 505 students and is classified by the Texas University Interscholastic League as a AAA school district.

Salary: $30,000 annually and paid twice/month

Hospitalization insurance is not currently provided for this position.

Youth minister would be required to live in Sweetwater.
