Position Description: Full Time Youth Director

Position Summary: The Youth Director reports directly to the Lead Pastor and will be responsible for:

  1. Working with the Youth Committee to overseeing the youth ministry of BSLC (7th grade – adulthood) and direct the implementation of its mission and values.
  2. The formation of a base of adults to build a web of relationships between each BSLC youth and multiple Christian adults in the church.
  3. Biblically developing the youth of BSLC into Christians engaged in ongoing active Christian life.

Responsibilities:

RELATIONSHIPS: The Youth Director along with the Youth Committee will ensure that relationships are being built between the adult leaders and parents of BSLC and the youth of the church.

Result #1: The Youth Director knows all of the youth and parents in the youth directory by name.

Result #2: All first-time guests to youth events are receiving exceptional and timely follow-up from adults and youth, so that all youth who connect to BSLC are listened to and valued as individuals.

Result #3: All parents of active youth are empowered to build deeper relationships within families and supported so they can provide spiritual growth and accountability within their families.

Result #4: Youth ministry at BSLC engages youth from families who are not regularly participating and youth from the community.

Result #5: Technology and social media are regularly utilized to develop relationships with and among youth.

RECRUITING and SUPERVISION: The Youth Director works with the Youth Committee to coordinate and supervise all youth ministry staff and hands-on adult volunteers to ensure that the efforts of all adult leaders and staff members are coordinated to maximize their effectiveness.

Result #6: All weekly hands-on adult volunteers are recruited and have received training at least one month before their term of service begins.

Result #7: Regular support, training, and encouragement are provided to all volunteers working hands-on with youth.

Result #8: The Youth Director supports the strategic progress of the BSLC youth ministry by ensuring that regular evaluation checks progress on three-year goals and one-year benchmarks  and assures adherence to the mission and values of the BSLC youth ministry.

Result #9: The Student Ministry Assistant is clearly directed and well supported so that they can function effectively.

Result #10: The Youth director ensures adherence to the Child Protection Policy in all youth programs.

PROGRAMS: The Youth Director works alongside the Youth Committee ensures that all details of youth programs and special events are taken care of so that the mission and values of BSLC youth ministry are supported

Result #11: The weekly programs are growing in participation, enthusiasm, and excellence.

Result #12: A curriculum plan encompassing teaching topics and events and activities is in place, and curriculum resources for each year are selected at least one month before the school year begins.

Result #13: The Youth Director is regularly present at youth programming and events for all ages to observe, support and teach occasionally.

Result #14: The Youth Director supports a leadership development ministry for all levels of youth ministry which takes motivated youth and provides the mentoring, training, and opportunities to lead in ministry.

Result #15: Confirmation is well supported with quality resources and encouragement are provided to youth and parents to successfully complete this program.

Result #16: Youth ministry continues until the youth is past high school and engaged in regular service, worship, and accountable community. This occurs at different ages for different people, so youth ministry is provided to support and encourage the transition of youth into adult Christianity at all ages necessary.

SPIRITUAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Have a transparent, passionate, growing, relationship with Christ.
• Meet scriptural qualifications for a position of leadership (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9)
• Be humble, teachable and willing to be held accountable.
• Possess the spiritual gifts of leadership and evangelism.

VOCATIONAL AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A passion and calling to work with youth.
  • Undergraduate degree strongly preferred.
  • 3+ years experience ministering to (40+) students in a church or para-church organization.
  • Experience with recruiting and training volunteers.
  • Enthusiasm for and effectiveness in outreach and evangelism.
  • Proven ability to disciple others into leadership.
  • Be a self-starter with drive, passion, initiative, and creativity.
  • Is a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Full support for the overall mission of BSLC and our stance as a theologically conservative Bible-basedLutheranChurch.
  • Displays a good balance of work and personal life.
  • All applicants must pass a full background check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
A typical youth staff member will endure a number of nights each year with minimal sleep, particularly on retreats and trips with students. In addition, there will be seasons when the physical demands of the youth ministry can be exhausting, particularly when preparing for a major event or multiple major events.
